Budgetify · Offline tracking
An offline expense tracker for India that works with no internet at all
Budgetify is an Android expense tracker that runs entirely on your phone. It reads
the bank and UPI transaction SMS you already receive, turns them into a categorised spending
picture, and never sends any of it anywhere — because it ships without Android's
INTERNET permission and physically cannot.
A free, account-free expense tracker for Android that tracks Indian bank and UPI spending automatically from SMS, works with mobile data switched off, and has no technical ability to upload your financial data. Available in six Indian languages.
"Offline" means two very different things
This is worth separating, because the word is used for both and only one of them is a guarantee.
Offline-capable is the common meaning: the app works without a connection and syncs later. Useful, but the app still holds full network access and is choosing when to use it.
Offline by construction is the stricter one: the app has no network permission, so there is nothing to sync and no choice being made. Android refuses the connection at the operating-system level.
Budgetify is the second kind. You can
verify it yourself in under a minute from the Play listing
or with adb — no need to take our word for it.
What you give up, honestly
An offline-only design is a genuine trade-off, and any page that only lists advantages is selling you something:
| You lose | What you get instead |
|---|---|
| Automatic sync across devices | An encrypted backup file you move yourself, on your own terms |
| Server-side account recovery | Nothing to breach, subpoena, or leak — there is no account and no server |
| Live exchange rates, bank logos fetched on demand, web dashboards | An app that works identically on a plane and never phones home |
| Automatic bank-balance fetching via account linking | No bank credentials to hand over to anyone, ever |
If cross-device sync matters more to you than architectural privacy, a cloud tracker is the better fit and we would rather you picked one than were disappointed by this.
What it does
- Automatic tracking from SMS
- Reads bank and UPI transaction messages, extracting amount, date, merchant and account.
Matches against a built-in list of over 1,600 Indian bank sender IDs, understands TRAI's
-S/-T/-Prouting suffixes, and drops promotional messages, OTPs, statements and failed payments rather than logging them as spending. - Budgets and analytics
- Monthly and per-category budget limits with threshold alerts, a category breakdown, a daily spend curve, merchant analysis, and spending split by bank.
- Planning
- Savings goals, net worth with assets and liabilities, SIP and holdings tracking, recurring payments with reminders for subscriptions, rent and EMIs, and tax-deduction tagging for 80C, 80D, 24(b) and HRA.
- Shared expenses
- A split and settle-up ledger where the other people are just names — nobody else needs to install anything or create an account.
- Your data, portable
- Export to Excel, CSV, PDF or plain text at any time. Import CSV or Excel bank statements for months your SMS history never covered. Backups are AES-256 encrypted with a passphrase only you know.
- Six languages
- English, हिन्दी, मराठी, বাংলা, తెలుగు and தமிழ்.
Common questions
Can an expense tracker really work with no internet connection?
Yes — everything it needs is already on the phone. The transaction SMS your bank sends arrive over the mobile network, and summarising them is arithmetic. A connection is only needed if the app syncs to a server, serves ads, or runs analytics. Budgetify does none of those, so it behaves the same with mobile data off.
Do I have to give it SMS access?
No. SMS permission is what makes tracking automatic, but it is optional — deny it and Budgetify works as a manual expense tracker, where you add entries yourself. Everything else is unchanged.
Does it work for cash spending too?
Yes. Cash has no SMS to read, so those entries are added by hand and tracked alongside the automatic ones.
Is it free?
Yes, with no ads. Some advanced extras are offered as an optional paid upgrade through Google Play; the core tracking, budgets and analytics are free.
Is there an iPhone version?
No — Android only. iOS does not allow apps to read SMS, so the automatic tracking that makes Budgetify work is not possible there.
What happens to my data if I uninstall it?
It is deleted with the app, because it only ever existed on your phone. There is no copy on a server to request or wait for. See deleting your data.
